Starfinder and LOP Calculator
Mq Saint Hilaire method for Line of position mehod
App finds the 58 stars from the Nautical Almanac and computes a Line of Position.
Includes Sun, Moon and planets.
In these times when all of us are relying on GPS, it may be worthwhile to stop a moment and give some thought to not having a GPS at all.
If you are anything like me, it really is a challenge to work a sun or star sight after not having done so for some time.
This app fills in where you left off. The only thing to remember (or learn) is to handle a sextant.
StarFinder is a one-screen App and has been kept as simple as possible.
This app will be equally useful for the professional navigator, the yachtsman as well as the layman.
Most navigators use the ‘Air Navigation Tables’ for the star identification as the easiest method to prepare for a position fix. This app will pre-compute your most suitable stars for position fixing.
No Nautical Almanac, Nories or other tables are required; the one page App gives you what you need for both star finding and position fixing
There are no 'bells & whistles' here, but the app gives what is essential and necessary, 58 of the brightest stars and how to find them, sun, moon and planets and a ‘line of position’ (LOP) for the navigators. Two LOP’s constitute a fix.
NB
Altitudes are already corrected for atmospheric Refraction, Parallax and Semi Diameter (in the case of sun and moon).
